Patreon звільняє 20% штату

Patreon is reducing its workforce by 20%, affecting approximately 93 employees. CEO Jack Conte stated that the company does not view artificial intelligence as a replacement for humans but acknowledges that the technology has “fundamentally changed the industry.”
This is reported by The Verge.
What is known about Patreon
Patreon is a company best known for its subscription-based crowdfunding platform, which enables content creators to receive ongoing financial support from their fans in exchange for exclusive content or early access.
Reasons for the Reductions
In an internal memo to employees, Conte wrote that the company is implementing layoffs not because it believes “AI can replace people.” However, he emphasized that the technology has “fundamentally changed the industry,” and specifically the conditions under which Patreon operates and develops its products.
Last month, during an interview on the Decoder podcast, the Patreon CEO mentioned that the company is “100% using AI tools.”
“If Patreon doesn’t start fully leveraging these tools as a product and engineering company (which, ultimately, is what we are) and applying them to bring more capabilities to creators, we will simply cease to exist in three years.”
Previous workforce reductions at Patreon occurred in 2022: at that time, the company dismissed 17% of its staff and closed its offices in Dublin and Berlin.
