The cost of hotels, food, and drinks can vary significantly depending on the vacation destination. Turkey remains the most affordable for travelers, while France is the most expensive.
This is reported by Euronews Business, which analyzed Eurostat data on price levels for various goods and services in seven of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations.

Where vacation will be cheapest

Analysts note that this data does not reflect the actual cost of vacation but only shows the average price level in each country.
In popular tourist locations, prices can be significantly higher. For example, the cost of a hotel room in Athens and on the island of Kos will differ considerably, even though both are included in the average calculation for Greece.
Turkey was recognized as the cheapest country in Europe for vacationing based on overall price levels. If a conditional set of goods and services costs an average of 100 euros in the EU, it will cost approximately 59.6 euros in Turkey, which is almost 40% cheaper.
France turned out to be the most expensive, where a similar set of goods costs slightly more than the EU average – 100.3 euros.
Countries with prices below the European average also included:
  • Italy – 97.1 euros;
  • Spain – 91.6 euros;
  • Greece – 87.4 euros;
  • Portugal – 86.6 euros;
  • Croatia – 78.4 euros.

Where hotels and restaurants are cheapest

Portugal’s hotels and restaurants proved to be the most cost-effective for tourists in terms of accommodation and dining. On average, prices there are about 26% lower than in EU countries overall.
Turkey, Spain, Greece, and Croatia are also relatively affordable.
Conversely, France and Italy topped the list of the most expensive destinations for accommodation and dining expenses.
